You’ll pass through small villages and catch a glimpse of traditional Cypriot life as you travel high in the pine-clad Troodos Mountains. You will see the Kykkos Monastery, with its ornate architecture and wonderful mosaics in bright colours. Marvel at its opulence, with multiple gold icons and beautifully preserved frescoes.
Enjoy a traditional light lunch, served in Kalopanayiotis village, and including pita with souvlaki or haloumi. Thereafter, you’ll have the option to walk down to the sulphur springs and visit Agios Ioannis Lampadistis Church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This was originally a monastery, but nowadays the site, is a complex of three churches -Ioannis Lampadistis, Agios Herakleidios and a Latin chapel - all under a single, enormous timber roof.
You will spend your day listening to your guide, telling a host of fascinating stories that reveal how Cypriot history unfolded, piece by piece.
