The Three Cities is the group name for three fortified cities: Cospicua, Vittoriosa and Senglea.
The tour will start at Cospicua, a double-fortified harbour city and the largest of the three.
Next you will visit Vittoriosa. Vittoriosa is ideally placed for safe anchorage and, over the years, developed a very long history with maritime, mercantile and military activities. Before Valletta became the capital of Malta, military powers vied for control of Vittoriosa because of its strategic position in the Grand Harbour.
The third city, Senglea, is called Civitas Invicta because it was able to resist the Ottoman invasion during the Great Siege of Malta in 1565. Senglea was the name given by the grandmaster, Claude De La Sengle, who built it.
On this tour you will stroll through many narrow streets shaded by numerous historic churches and buildings.
Then you drive to the Marsovin Cellars in Marsa. The wine tasting trip starts with an historic presentation of original artefacts before the process of pressing, fermenting and eventually transforming locally grown grapes into wine is detailed.
A stroll through the 400-year-old ‘Ageing Cellars’ is a real Maltese heritage experience. The wine sampling is in the Marsovin wine bar, where expert staff help guests with through a wine tasting session sampling various Marsovin wines along with a selection of local savouries such as Maltese bread and cheese.
There is also the chance to buy local Marsovin wines at the bar.
