Quick Overview
Prehistoric Temples Tour - duration 4h
The Malta Temples tour is not to be missed.
Between Malta and Gozo, the islands are home to no less than seven megalithic sites, all registered UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The massive structures are over 5500 years old, and are the oldest free-standing structures on earth.
Megaliths aside, the islands are also home to over thirty other temples.
The first stop is Ghar Dalam, where excavations in the 19th century uncovered animal bones, human remains, and important artefacts. The cave here is an extremely important site to palaeontologist, archaeologists, and ecologists. The museum here consists of the cave, a Victorian-style exhibit, a fascinating didactic display and a garden of indigenous fauna and flora.
Your next stop will be Hagar Qim and Mnajdra. Hagar Qim is a megalithic complex atop a hill in the south of the island, while the Mnajdra megaliths stand 500 metres from Hagar Qim.
Only a few hundred metres from the megalith sites you will find the Aquarium, one of the thirteen watchtowers constructed by Grand Master Martin de Redin.
Once the tour is concluded you will be taken back to your hotel.
