Tour the fashionable Stresa and the magnificent Islands on Lake Maggiore on a day-trip from Milan. Set in Italy’s beautiful Lake District only a 1.5-hour drive from Milan, Lake Maggiore is surrounded by the stately Alps and boasts some of Italy’s most splendid gardens. Following some free time for shopping in Stresa, you will take a 2-hour scenic boat cruise on the lake, touring the Borromean Islands – Isola Madre, Isola dei Pescatori and Isola Bella.
Lake Maggiore, aka Verbano, on the borders of Piedmont, Lombardy and Switzerland, is the second largest Italian lake.
Your tour begins in Stresa, where you will have some free time to discover this quiet and interesting little town, try some typical food, or indulge in some shopping before taking a stunning lake cruise.
On-board you will take in the scenery of elegant lakeside villas and lush gardens surrounded by cerulean waters set in the snow-capped Alpine beauty.
First, you pass the exotic Isola Madre, home to a 20-acre park thought to be one of the most impressive in Italy, before making your way back in time to the simple life of Isola dei Pescatori. Here you will have free time to explore, shop or enjoy a light lunch.
The next stop is the luxurious Isola Bella with the elaborate Borromean Palace gardens surrounded by boutiques and cafés housed in grand ancient buildings.
Lastly, you will meet back at the boat and cruise back to Stresa for your return to Milan.
