Crossing the border into northern Cyprus was forbidden for decades because of Turkish occupation in 1974. So, this trip really should be on your holiday bucket list. Start the day by crossing the famous Green Line. The contrast strikes you immediately as you’re thrown into an older and decidedly more traditional setting. Then, head into the legendary countryside and drive through the winding roads of the Pentadaktylos Mountain range. Visit the ruined, and yet magnificent Bellapais Abbey. Your guide will entertain you with a lively tale of the last 800 years, set against the leafy background of the local scenery. The Kyrenia Harbour castle is also well worth a visit, with its famous Shipwreck Musem.
